New Delhi, India – July 14, 2023 – OPPO India and the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) have collaborated to set up the first PPP-model Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) in Kerala. The lab was inaugurated on July 10, 2023, at St Paul’s CEHSS in Kuriachira, Thrissur, by Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and Information Technology.
The PPP model is a public-private partnership model, where the government and a private company work together to set up and run a project. In this case, OPPO India is the private company that is partnering with AIM to set up the ATL.
The ATL at St Paul’s CEHSS will provide students with the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on activities. The lab is equipped with a variety of tools and equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and robotics kits.
“The establishment of the first PPP Atal Tinkering Lab in collaboration with OPPO India is a significant milestone in India’s School Innovation journey,” said Chintan Vaishnav, MD of Atal Innovation Mission. “Through this new modality of partner-established ATLs, we hope to democratize tinkering and make it available to many more students across the country.”
OPPO India is committed to supporting the development of STEM education in India. The company has partnered with several other organizations to set up ATLs in different parts of the country.
“We are excited to partner with AIM to set up the first PPP-model ATL in Kerala,” said Alen Wu, CEO of OPPO India. “We believe that this lab will help to inspire the next generation of innovators in India.”
The ATL at St Paul’s CEHSS is open to students from classes 6 to 12. The lab will offer a variety of activities, including robotics, electronics, and coding. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in competitions and hackathons.
